Chelsea have been warned that Eden Hazard could leave this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. The Belgian forward showed last night why he’s considered among the very best in the Premier League as he scored twice in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over West Brom. Hazard has been persistently linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge with Real Madrid understood to be interested in the 27-year-old. His contract runs until 2020 but Chelsea are keen to tie him to a new deal, with reports suggesting they would be prepared to put him on a £300,000-a-week deal. The player himself has hinted in the past he will sign a new contract with the reigning champions.

However, Jamie Carragher has warned Chelsea that if they fail to qualify for the Champions League then Hazard’s exit would become much more likely. ‘He is one of the top players in world football, there’s no doubt about that,’ Carragher told Sky Sports after Chelsea’s game with West Brom. ‘The unfortunate thing when Chelsea are talking about getting into the top four tonight and Hazard said Chelsea are made to win trophies, this season they can still win the FA Cup and the Champions League, but if they don’t get into the top four, you would have to worry about him. ‘I think every top club in world football would be looking at that situation if they didn’t get Champions League football.’

Carragher was full of praise for Hazard following his two-goal performance at Stamford Bridge. ‘He is one of the strongest players in the Premier League. The world’s greatest ever players that we’ve seen, not just in the Premier League, are often flair players so as a defender, you think “I can leave one on them” or something like that, but you can’t bully the best players. ‘He’s exactly the same, and he has that strength where you can’t get the ball off them.’
