To improve food security in the state, 100 youths from Osun East Senatorial District have been trained in modern agriculture techniques.
The lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District in the Senate, Francis Fadahunsi, who sponsored the training, advised youths in the country to embrace agriculture in order to escape poverty currently ravaging the nation.
According to a statement by the Media Assistant to Fadahunsi, Mr Sam Segun-Progress, he stated this speaking at the training at Ilase, Osun State recently.
He noted that dependence on oil would not improve Nigeria’s financial status.
Fadahunsi stated that if youths embrace agriculture, the country’s food security will be guaranteed.
The lawmaker, who was represented by a legislative aide, Mukaila Yusuf, declared, “Agriculture as a whole remains the only viable venture and investments that can sustain and rebuild Nigeria’s economy.
“Our interest and investments in the youth to build their capacity in agriculture is not to seek short-term breakthrough, but to build an enduring economy base for the future.
That is why I am suggesting that Nigerians embrace agriculture if only to feed themselves and family. It is important we all start growing our food.”
Fadahunsi urged youths to learn the rudiments of farming for the country to be self-sufficient in food production.
“We all need to embrace agriculture to escape poverty. Oil is no longer good enough to make us rich as a country. Every one of us, regardless status, must embrace farming. At least that will put food on the table.”
