Over one thousand runners are set to participate in the maiden Capital City Race, a mini-marathon scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Ikeja, Lagos, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 10km race, organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission, will commence at 7:00 am from City Mall Alausa and conclude at the Police College, Ikeja GRA, with substantial cash prizes for top performers.

Winners in both male and female categories will receive N500,000, while the first runners-up will get N300,000 and the second runners-up N200,000.

Lagos State Sports Commission Director General, Lekan Fatodu, described the event as a brilliant initiative aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among residents.

“The Lagos State Sports Commission is ready to welcome any initiative that helps our community to be more productive and more active to impact our socio-economic endeavour,” Fatodu stated.

Race convener Dapo Ajayi emphasized that the event is fundamentally about fitness and inspiring the youth.

“Our young population is enormous and we can’t be sitting and doing nothing. Physical activities encourage physical and mental well-being of the populace as well as bonding and meeting people from different walks of life,” Ajayi said.

Co-convener Folashade Fatokun applauded the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Sports Commission, and event sponsors.

Despite the closure of registration, participants have continued to show immense interest in the Capital City Race.

The event promises to be an exciting platform for networking, community engagement, and promoting a culture of fitness in Lagos State.
