Sixteen judokas began camping in Bauchi to compete for places to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers in Cameroon and Senegal in November, PRIMANEWS Sports Extra reports.
The first Olympic qualifiers billed for Senegal will hold from November 9 to 12 while the second qualifier in Cameron is slated for November 18 to 19.
Our correspondent learnt that the Nigeria Judo Federation invited eight athletes in the men’s and women’s category invited for the qualifiers.
The men jodokas invited for camping are Airueghian Odion Bright (+100kg), Damini Micah (-100kg), Cyprain Miracle (-90kg), Abdulraman Ejeba (-81kg), Samuel Ayowole (-73kg), Taiwo Aremu (-73kg), Michael Agbo (-66kg) and Kehinde Aremu (-66kg).
In the woen’s category, Mba Stellamaris (+78kg), Egiro-Oghene Irene (+78kg), Enku Ekuta (-63kg), Amara Udeza (-63kg), Immaculate Nelson (-57kg), Miracle Eziedu (-57kg), Franca Audu (-52kg), Charity Jatau (-52kg) and Selere Mathias (-48kg).
The coaches for both categories are Suleman Musa, Cathrine Ewa, Toyin Ojo, Christy Aremu and Bobo Igonawari.
According to the Technical Director of NJF, Amos Iliya, “The national camp in Bauchi is to enable the federation to train and select judokas that will represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Olympics qualifiers in Senegal and in Cameroon.
“For Nigerians to qualify and be on the podium by his grace, the Nigerian Judo Federation has decided to invite 18 judokas and 5 coaches to handle the training camp.”
