(AA) – Pakistan test-fired a missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads for the second time in less than a week.
The Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations said the Shaheen 1A intermediate-range missile was fired to a range of 900 kilometers.
“The successful launch was aimed at re-validating various design and technical parameters of the weapon system,” according to the army statement.
The launch was witnessed by naval chief Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah who congratulated the scientists and engineers for “their dedication, professionalism and commitment.”
He reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peaceful co-existence in the region.
Pakistan’s two recent missile tests followed another last week by neighboring rival India. The arms race between the two countries has often meant displays of their nuclear capabilities
