(AA) – The Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Federation Board appointed Mehmed Bazdarevic as the new manager of the Bosnian national football team on Saturday.

The Secretary of the Football Federation Board, Jasmin Bakovic, confirmed Bazdarevic’s unanimous appointment on Friday after the board held a three and a half hour long meeting.

He explained that Bazdarevic is currently in France and the federation already contacted him to agree on the details of his contract.

Right after the announcement, Bazdarevic told Anadolu Agency in his first interview as manager that he had waited all his life for this moment.

“It means so much to me. I am the manager of my own country’s national team. Being the manager of the national team is the crowning moment of my career. I am also aware that this is a great responsibility. I am very excited and proud to be manager,” Bazdarevic said.

He stressed that there is a lot of work to do to ensure Bosnia qualify for UEFA Euro 2016 in France.

“A hard time is waiting for us but I believe in the team. We need good spirit to achieve good results. Despite the bad start in Euro 2016 qualifying for France, we can and should participate in the tournament — but we need many victories,” the new manager said.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Federation Board dismissed the previous manager on Nov. 18 following a disappointing start to the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Mehmed Bazdarevic was born on Sep. 28, 1960 in Visegrad, a town located in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
