(AA) – At least 20 people have lost their lives after a bus carrying an opera troupe fell off a cliff in China’s central Henan province, state media reported Tuesday.
Another 13 people were injured and hospitalized after the accident occurred at around 11 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday near the boundary of Xinxiang city and Linzhou city, where the troupe had been headed, Xinhua cited the local rescue headquarters as saying.
A privately owned troupe from Xingyang had rented the bus, according to the provincial culture department.
There had been a total of 33 people on board the bus – which was designed to carry 35 people.
An investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
Late last month, at least 22 people were killed and another 38 injured when a bus overturned in China’s western Xinjiang region.
