(AA) – Twelve prominent Turkish films will be screened at the 4th Rome Turkish Film Festival next month, the festival president said Sunday.

The Festival’s honorary president, Turkish director Ferzan Ozpetek, said that the festival will bring together Italian and Turkish cinema from 15 to 19 April 2015.

Ozpetek told an AA correspondent that the festival used to take place in September or October, and that this year is the first time it will be held in April. He invited local Romans to attend.

The festival will open with Cagan Irmak’s “Whisper If I Forget” on April 16 at one of Italy’s oldest movie theatres, Barberini.

“It will be very beautiful to screen stunning movies during the festival from different film directors.  That is a lot of support to them, I know some of them… they are proud people,” Ozpetek said.

The festival’s committee said that they have decided to give this year’s Honor Award to Humeyra.

“She has been very successful in Turkish cinema, she is a great artist,” Ozpetek said.

Humeyra is a Turkish actress, singer, composer, and lyricist. She was very successful in the 2000s with the drama “My Father and My Son” directed by Cagan Irmak in 2005.

Last year, Ozpetek presented the festival’s Honor Award to Fatos Guney, one of the most successful actresses in Turkish film. She is the wife of Yilmaz Guney, another famous Turkish actor who died two years after he won the Palme d’Or with the film “Yol” that he co-produced with Serif Goren at Cannes Film Festival in 1982.

The Rome Turkish Film Festival was launched in 2011 by the Turkish Embassy in Rome, Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Ministry for EU Affairs.
