Russia: 5 dead, 25 missing after fire in mall

(AA) – At least five people were killed and another 25 may be remaining under the ruins of a shopping mall that went on fire in the central Russian city of Kazan on Wednesday, according to Russian non-governmental news agency Interfax.

A fire broke out on Wednesday in a cafe located on the mall’s first floor and spread to the remaining two floors of the three-story mall, the media reported.

Interfax news agency cited the head of the regional emergencies ministry, Igor Panshin, as saying that around 25 people have not contacted their relatives. 

Around 200 people had been evacuated from the complex in Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, on Thursday as emergency teams were clearing the rubble, media reported.
