(AA) – Dozens of official and unofficial sites in Israel have been attacked by internet hacker group Anonymous since the first hours of Tuesday as part of the group’s annual campaign against Israeli online targets, local media reported.
Several official sites, including those of the Knesset (parliament), Israeli court system and Ministry of Education, were attacked by hackers but yet still function normally, the Israeli media reported.
Thousands of email and Facebook accounts have been under attack as well.
The National Cyber Defense Center in Israel has passed on tips to Israeli civilian sites on how to protect their data.
However, dozens of Israeli sites and email accounts have been hacked, according to Anonymous’ Twitter account.
On April 7 of every year, Anonymous group launches cyber-attacks as part of its “#OpIsrael” against Israel’s institutions, citing the self-proclaimed Jewish state’s “crimes against the Palestinians.”
