(AA) – Dirk Kuyt, the Dutch forward for Turkish football club Fenerbahce, has signed a one-year deal with his former team Feyenoord for the next season.

Dutch club Feyenoord confirmed their new signing on their website on Friday stating: “Dirk Kuyt returns to Feyenoord.”

Feyenoord executive Martin van Geel said: “It is a great day for Feyenoord. We are extremely happy about Dirk Kuyt’s return.”

The 34-year-old Dutch veteran, who is reported to have signed the contract in Istanbul, expressed his joy about returning to Feyenoord and said his nine-year-period abroad had ended.

He said he had spent wonderful three seasons in Turkey, remains in good form and wants to win new titles at Feyenoord next season.

Having played for Feyenoord from 2003 to 2006, Kuyt has spoken of his desire to return to his Rotterdam-based club many times and he also bought a house close to his hometown of Noordwijk.

He has said his children will play for Dutch amateur football club Quick Boys, where he began his career, if he returns to the Netherlands.

Dirk Kuyt was transferred to Fenerbahce from English team Liverpool in 2012 and retired from international football last year.
