(AA) – At least 20 construction laborers have been killed and three injured after gunmen opened fire on a labor camp in southwestern Baluchistan province, officials have said.

The incident took place at 2 a.m. local time on Saturday in coastal Turbat district as the laborers were set to work on the construction of a small dam, the Deputy Commissioner of Turbat, Mumtaz Ali, told The Anadolu Agency.

The injured were in a stable condition, he said.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but Turbat is one of the footholds of Baluch separatist groups, the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Baluchistan Liberation Front (BLF), who say they have been fighting for “liberation” of Baluchistan.

The separatists often target security forces and non-Baluch citizens in different parts of the mineral-rich province.
