(AA) – A Daesh-linked group said Friday that it fired two mortar shells on a position of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian faction Hamas, in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis.

In a statement, the so-called “Supporters of Islamic State in Jerusalem” said some of its members had shelled the position of what it described as the “Qassam gang” in the morning on Friday.

“We will never give up the case of our brothers who are detained in the jails of Gaza,” the group said in the statement.

It called on “Muslims of the Gaza Strip” to stay away from police and military sites to protect their lives.

Hamas has not, however, confirmed the attack yet.

The Gaza Strip has been witnessing tensions between the ruling Hamas faction and pro-Daesh groups for several weeks now.

Late on Thursday, Gaza security forces raided the homes of alleged supporters of Daesh, which overrun vast territories in both Iraq and Syria last year.
