Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana was sent off for the club’s U23s on Monday evening for putting a Tottenham player in a chokehold. The England international has endured an injury-ravaged campaign this term and has made just seven starts for the Reds in all competitions. Lallana missed the first half of the season and had returned before a groin injury put him out of action again. The former Southampton man was given a run-out for Liverpool’s U23s against Tottenham, where he was hoping to improve his fitness and stake a claim for Liverpool’s clash against the Saints on Sunday.
However, Lallana lasted just 63 minutes after being sent off for putting 19-year-old Spurs ace George Marsh in a chokehold. Marsh appeared to innocuously catch Lallana during a 50/50 aeriel battle and the midfielder reacted wildly by grappling the teenager and shoving him to the ground. Lallana now faces a suspension that is likely to be limited to non-first team matches and could even be fined for his actions.
