Unai Emery has confirmed he will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, with Thomas Tuchel favourite to replace him in the dugout.

Failure to progress beyond the Champions League last-16 put Emery’s position in jeopardy, despite PSG regaining the Ligue 1 title in style following Monaco’s surprise triumph last season.

Despite long-term links between the French club and soon-to-be former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, he is not expected to be in the reckoning for the manager’s job.

Emery said in a press conference: “I have told the players, (sporting director) Antero (Henrique) & the president (chairman & CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi) that it is finished. I thank everybody. All that remains is the Coupe de France final.”

Umery was hired by the French club on the strength of his stellar record in European knockout competitions, having won the Europa League three times with Sevilla.

Champions League glory eluded him at the Parc de Princes however, crashing out to Barcelona last season after a dramatic collapse from 5-3 up on aggregate in the 88th minute of the second leg.

Holders Real Madrid cruised past them in the last-16 this season, a particularly disappointing outcome given the extraordinary summer of spending that brought Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to the club
