Manchester United fans have mocked Arsenal after the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

Diego Costa’s first-half strike was enough to secure Atletico Madrid a place in the final and send Arsene Wenger’s side out of the competition which United won last year.

Defeat for the Londoners means Wenger will end his final season at the club without a trophy, with his only piece of silverware a vase presented to him by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho last week.

Arsenal fans had themselves laughed at United last season as the Reds battled to eventual success in the Europa League.

The result means former United player Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be gearing up for another season in Europe’s second tier club competition, while former Arsenal hero Alexis Sanchez can dream of Champions League success.

And while a few supporters felt sorry for Wenger, they still loved seeing their former title rivals fail yet again in Europe.
