Organisers of the Maritime Cup, Ships & Ports Communication Company, have said that the 13th edition of the annual football competition will be held between October and November.
Announcing this in a statement on Wednesday, the organisers said that in the first leg of the competition, the defending champion, Nigerian Ports Authority, will be meeting with the Nigerian Shippers Council at the end of October.
The Maritime Cup, which has recorded huge success since its inception in 2009, was created by a maritime firm Ships & Ports Communication Company to foster unity and encourage competitive sporting activities among industry stakeholders.
The statement revealed that the draws for the competition were also held Tuesday in Lagos where the 15 participating teams were placed in four groups.
Speaking during the draws held in Surulere, Lagos, the Head of the Technical Committee of the Maritime Cup, Adesegun Kosoko, commended the organisers for sustaining the competition for the past 14 years.
He assured participants of effective officiating and transparency in all the matches in line Federation International Football Association rules.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the competition, Mrs Oluwatosin Rotimi, assured the participating teams of an exciting competition.
“The 2023 Maritime Cup, which is the 13th in the edition of the competition, will be officiated by approved FIFA-badge referees,” she said.
She said matches of the competition this year will be played at The Stable and NPA Sports Ground, both in Surulere, Lagos.
