A 24-year-old man, identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, was found dead after reportedly hanging himself from a tree in the Afami area of Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The discovery was made on Friday morning by a worker near the scene, according to Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with PUNCH Online.

Odutola stated that the Divisional Police Officer reported the suspected suicide around 8:27 am after an employee at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese alerted authorities upon finding the lifeless body at about 8:10 am along Dangote-Afami Road.

She said, “On October 18, 2024, at approximately 08:27 am, the Divisional Police Officer reported a suspected suicide incident. An Assistant at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed the Dangote Police Post that he discovered a lifeless body around 8:10 am.

“The deceased, later identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, a 24-year-old from Abeokuta, was found hanging from a tree along Dangote-Afami Road. The duty officer at the police post promptly alerted law enforcement, and a team was dispatched to the scene.

“Upon investigation, photographs were taken, revealing no signs of violence on the body. Personal items found in the deceased’s pockets included a payment card, a key holder, an earbud, and N2,000.”

Items recovered from the victim’s pockets included a payment card, a key holder, an earbud, and N2,000. The police have since released the body to the family for burial.

Odutola urged families to pay close attention to loved ones who may be exhibiting concerning behaviour, especially amid rising incidents of youth suicides.

“Further updates will be provided, and in the meantime, please remain calm and vigilant.

“Police urged families to monitor their loved ones amid rising youth suicides,” Odutola concluded.
