The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Olayinka Isaac, for allegedly defiling and raping a 17-year-old girl in the Rounder area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Sunday that the incident, which occurred at about on January 23, 2025, around 4:00 PM, sparked outrage in the community.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, had allegedly lured the teenager into a nearby bush before forcefully having carnal knowledge of her.

A member of the state community Social Orientation and Safety Corps, who helped in identifying the suspect, visited the survivor’s mother, known simply as Oluwatoyin, to inform her that her daughter had been attacked in a bush behind the “Carry Go” area of the community.

She said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured the victim to the isolated area before carrying out the heinous act.

“The young girl was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, while detectives from the Ilupeju Division arrested the suspect.

“Officers from the Juvenile Welfare Centre visited the scene of the crime to gather evidence, with the case now under thorough investigation. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further action.”

She assured the aggrieved family that the suspect would face the full weight of the law. In December 2024, PUNCH Metro reported a similarly heinous act against a teenager.

A 20-year-old man, Akeem Sumonu, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the Olodo community of Odeda Local Government Area.

The survivor’s mother, identified as Christiana, told the police that the suspect violently attacked her daughter in October 2024, raped her, and later issued threats to silence her.
