Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to grassroots sports development with the second edition of Sporty Lagos, which attracted over 500 participants at Rowe Park, Yaba on Monday.

The festival, themed “Sporting a New Vision: Sanwo-Olu 2.0 Transforms Lagos,” featured various sporting activities including football, taekwondo, table tennis, tug of war and boxing.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development, Adebanji Atewogboye, said the annual event serves as a talent discovery platform.

“This event aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration to promote sports in the state. We are committed to meaningfully engaging youths in sport, using Sporty Lagos as a ground for discovering outstanding talents,” Atewogboye said.

One of the participants, Khaleed Olayiwola, described the event as an exhibition of athletic talent, while parent Grace Osifo expressed satisfaction with the organisation.

“This was my first attendance and I really enjoyed the experience. It was fun-filled because I participated in tug of war and my team won N20,000 cash prize. We appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu and urge him to continue the event,” Osifo said.

The event featured live musical performances by Sanusi Ahanadu, known as ShanaShow, and Friday Aiyedun Rajalin.

Dignitaries present included APC Lagos Financial Secretary, Asipa Wasiu Doyin Banjo; Senior Special Assistant to Sanwo-Olu on Housing, Ayodeji Amodu; SSA on Marketing and Administration, Onaopepo Adu; and Speaker, 4th Assembly, Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Adebogun Adedayo.
