(AA) – At least nine people, including eight policemen, were injured in a bomb blast in eastern Cairo on Friday, Egypt’s Interior Ministry has said.

The ministry said in a statement that an explosive device went off as a security patrol was passing in Ain Shams district in eastern Cairo.

According to the ministry, eight policemen – an officer and seven soldiers – and a civilian were injured in the explosion.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the blast.

Egypt has been dogged by turmoil since the military ousted elected President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013 following massive protests against his rule.

Egyptian authorities often blame the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Morsi hails, for attacks mostly targeting security forces in recent months.

The Brotherhood denies the accusations and says it is committed to peaceful activism.
