Nigeria’s strive to move up the standings at the ongoing 2024 Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament will see them go up against hosts and arch rivals Rwanda in their fifth game of the tournament on Tuesday (today), PRIMANEWS Sports Extra reports.
Both countries have become familiar foes in women’s cricket in Africa having met 23 times between 2019 and this year. The Female Yellow Greens and their rivals have 11 wins apiece with one game ending in a draw.
The Female Yellow Greens have, however, won in their last two meetings, which came at the Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s T20i tourney in Lagos in February.
Aside from boating of winning the last two encounters between them, Leke Oyede’s team are also going into today’s encounter with a comprehensive nine wickets win over Botswana on Monday as they brace for a tough test against the hosts, who are yet to lose any game after four rounds of matches.
Against Botswana, Piety Lucky was the Player of The Match, bossing Nigeria’s batting over the Botswanans with 19 runs from 12 balls not out for the easy win.
Botswana batted first in the game, but their work was stifled by Nigerian bowlers. Lillian Udeh and Lucky got three wickets each as they dismissed Botswana for just 56 runs in 20 overs.
The Female Yellow Greens hardly broke a sweat in the second innings and the chase was completed in 8.4 overs with an unsual batting order of Victory Igbinedion, Annointed Akhigbe and Lucky.
Having only won two of their four games so far, a win for Nigeria over Rwanda today will take them take them to six points and closer to the top-two positions on the leaderboard.
The 2024 Kwibuka tournament is being played by eight countries with the top-two sides after the round-robin going into the finals.
