SportAdeshina, Jimoh shine on collegiate outdoor debut

Nigerian high jumpers, Temitope Adeshina and Justine Jimoh were the star of attraction at the 2024 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, USA as both athletes emerged winners in their respective events, PRIMANEWS Sports Extra reports.
Adeshina, 25, who made a grand entry into the American collegiate circuit when she cleared 1.96m indoors to set a Nigerian record in the high jump event in January, soared to a height of 1.87m.
Cierra Allphin came second with a jump of 1.83m while Adeshina’s teammate, Clairie Lowrey finished third with 1.79m.
The 25-year-old will be seeking to become the first Nigerian woman high jumper to clear above the 2m mark in her next event as the season begins to gather momentum.
Also, Jimoh, won the men’s High Jump final for the second time in a row, this time it was the ‘B’ section at the event.
Jimoh came into the final of the ‘B’ section with a 2.01m record and he set a new personal best of 2.16m in his first attempt.
It was the second time in four years that an athlete from the Texas University will win either the ‘A’ section or the ‘B’ section of the men’s high jump according to Lion Athletics.
The 17-year-old needed just one attempt to clear 7-1 (2.16m) as well, while Harding’s Antiwain Jones also cleared 2.16m, but Jimoh was declared the winner of the ‘B’ section of the high jump based on fewest attempts. Hamid Ali who jumped 2.11m placed third.
In the track and field, Ezekiel Nathaniel made a great start to the season finishing second in the men’s 400m hurdles at the Battle on Bayoun in Baton, Rouge clocking a time of 49.57secs. The race was won by Chris Robinson who ran 49.13secs.
