The Nigerian Bar Association, Imo State Chapter, on Tuesday, urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to appoint a Commissioner for Lands to facilitate easy access for those with dealings in the ministry.

The NBA Chairman, Chris Ihentuge, made this call during the governor’s phone-in programme marking the first anniversary of his second term, held at the Government House, Owerri.

Ihentuge stated, “The appointment of a Commissioner for Lands will simplify access to land-related issues in the state.”

He also urged the governor to appoint a Chief Judge to address judicial matters effectively.

In response, Uzodimma said, “I am waiting for the appropriate communication from the NJC. We shall do the needful. We need to first constitute a Judicial Service Commission. Careful consideration is required when appointing a Chief Judge.”

The governor further explained, “When I receive a recommendation from the NJC, I will make the appointment. You are aware of the circumstances surrounding the removal of the Chief Judge—it was not retirement.”

On the Ministry of Lands, Uzodimma remarked that he currently oversees the ministry due to alleged racketeering.

He said, “We are computerising the ministry, and everyone claiming ownership of land must come for recertification. How can one individual possess 50 Certificates of Occupancy? This process must be stopped.”

Addressing the Nigerian Labour Congress’ request for the payment of minimum wage, the governor confirmed that the payments would commence in January with the implementation of an appropriate structural template.

Uzodimma also commended President Bola Tinubu for the removal of the fuel subsidy, stating, “How could we have paid the minimum wage, built roads, and undertaken other infrastructural projects without removing the fuel subsidy?

“Our revenue has increased by 50%. With the work I am doing, history will remember me positively after I leave office.”
