Arsenal are preparing to make a late move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, potentially derailing Chelsea’s long-standing pursuit of the Nigerian international, Punch Sports Extra reports.
According to UK publication football.london, the Gunners believe they could successfully hijack the transfer, with sources suggesting Osimhen would prefer a move to North London over West London.
This development adds another twist to Osimhen’s future.
Chelsea remains keen on securing his services despite complications in the deal, which include Napoli’s high asking price and competition from other top clubs.
The Manchester City giants have been in negotiations with Napoli for months, exploring a potential player-plus-cash deal involving Romelu Lukaku.
However, the Blues have found it difficult to meet Napoli’s asking price, reportedly in excess of £100m, with the Italian club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, adamant about getting full value for the 25-year-old striker.
Arsenal’s late interest could significantly complicate matters for Chelsea, who view Osimhen as their primary striker target this summer.
The Gunners’ intervention may also impact Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of Nigeria forward.
Meanwhile, Napoli’s manager, Antonio Conte, has made it clear that Osimhen is not in his plans, making his departure from Diego Maradona Stadium imminent.
Osimhen, who has openly expressed his desire to leave Napoli, was notably absent from the club’s recent pre-season friendly.
The 25-year-old however took part in Friday’s training session.
Osimhen, who scored 15 goals in 25 Serie A appearances last season, reportedly favours a move to the Premier League but has already agreed personal terms with PSG in order to facilitate a quick move.
The coming days will be crucial as both London clubs continue their pursuit of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Arsenal’s potential hijack of the transfer could be a major coup in the summer transfer window, shaking up the Premier League’s competitive landscape.
As the transfer window enters its final weeks, this potential three-way battle for Osimhen’s signature promises to be one of the summer’s most intriguing storylines.
