An aviation writer and author, Wole Shadare, has been recognised by the National Association of Nigerian Students for his diligence and work commitment.
He was honoured at a one-day public lecture on higher education and award presentation organised by NANS, which took place at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, on Tuesday.
The theme of the lecture was “Building a Strong Advocacy for Increased Investment in Higher Education”.
In a statement, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala, emphasised that investing in education was very important.
He said the government had tried to provide facilities through interventions.
According to him, for the education system to work, there must be an increase in funding.
He challenged the students to carry ABU’s flag high wherever they found themselves and to be good ambassadors of ABU.
The vice chancellor advised students to disregard those downplaying the acquisition of degrees.
He said, “Even though skills acquisition is important, it will not be profitable without sound education and as such a waste of energy.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Executive Officer Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Gbenga Komolafe, who was represented by the Director of Exploration, NUPRC, Garba Salihu, said the commission would continue to support the students.
He said, “Many students have benefited from his commission’s support scheme as they approved research topics for students who want to specialise in the oil and gas sector.
