Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem has charged FC Cincinnati teammates with more quality performances after their MLS Cup 1-0 win over New York City at TQL Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old starred alongside Nigeria midfielder Obinna Nwobodo as Yamil Asad’s 51st-minute goal secured them a win that left the club’s rank and file delirious.
“Great win in the playoffs. Amazing performance; let’s go for more,” stated Awaziem, who has started all eight MLS games for Cincinnati since joining the club on July 25, 2024, from Boavista, with two assists to his name.
The former Porto player starred as Cincinnati opened their 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs run style and substance, taking a wire-to-wire victory over NYCFC to go up one 1-0 in the Best of 3 series.
Those battles defined the first half hour of play, with Nwobodo fighting for every inch through the midfield.
With the victory, FC Cincinnati take the lead 1-0 in the Best of 3 series, meaning a win or shootout win in Game 2 would secure them a series victory and passage to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Orange and Blue will travel to New York City this Saturday, November 2 for Game 2 at Citi Field.
