Minna — Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has pledged N5 billion for the construction of classrooms and hostels to facilitate the reactivation of the Nigerian College of Aviation mini campus at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna.

Bago made the pledge yesterday when he received the management of the Nigerian College of Aviation, Zaria, at the airport.

He said the project, when completed, would reduce the huge costs incurred by government and parents in sending children abroad to study aviation-related courses.

“We are aware of the cost of sending children abroad to study aviation courses, but this project, when completed, will cut down a lot of expenses,” Bago stated.

The governor reiterated his administration’s determination to make the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna a hub for both aviation and agriculture.

Earlier, the Rector of the College, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Ismail, commended the governor for the ongoing remodeling of the airport to global standards. He noted that the college has a long-standing relationship with the Niger State government, which led to the establishment of the mini campus.

“Reviving the campus will strengthen our partnership with the state and have significant impact, not only in personnel training but also in agro-aviation business, among others,” Ismail said.

He explained that the College of Aviation, established in 1964, now has six schools including those for Flight, Air Traffic Control, Aeronautical Telecommunications Engineering, Airport Emergency and Training, and Aircraft Aviation Management.

Governor Bago later led the visiting team to inspect the aviation fuel depot and nearby housing units. He disclosed that the existing housing units would be demolished to make way for a more modern estate to help bridge the housing deficit in the state.
