Residents of Makurdi, Benue State capital, on Wednesday, heaved a sigh of relief, following the first rain of the year.

Makurdi, the state capital, is worst hit with heat waves, with residents lamenting the excessive heat, as many of them sleep outdoors.

The rain, which started around 5:30 am, accompanied by the heavy breeze, lasted almost one and a half hours.

Many of the residents who spoke with PUNCH Metro after the rain welcomed the cool weather with enthusiasm and prayed for more rain.

One Madam Debby described the rain as a ‘soothing balm’, saying, “We have been expecting the rain because of the heavy breeze we had witnessed in the last week.

“The heat has been very unbearable. We usually sleep outdoors till 4:30 am before we go inside. To God be the glory for the rain.”

A resident of Wadatta, identified as Timothy, thanked God for the rain, saying, “With this morning rain, we would have some respite before the heat starts again.”
