The acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has said that there was no change in the tariff and duty lines of the service.
Adeniyi, in a chat with the PRIMANEWS in Lagos last week, also said he was not aware of any increase in customs duty.
It was reported that customs brokers under the aegis of the Association of Concerned Freight Forwarders, on Thursday, commenced moves against the recent increment in the payment of import duties, a development which they said would further trigger inflation in the economy.
Adeniyi said, “I am not aware of any increase in Customs duty. What we have extant is from 2022 to 2026. There has not been any change as far as I am aware in our tariff lines and duty in the tariff lines.”
Explaining the seizure of 20 containers of expired tomato pastes, he explained that the importer falsely declared what they were carrying because they were avoiding relevant government agencies like the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency among others.
