The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Lagos announced that it collected the sum of N107.1bn as revenue in 2024.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Joy Edeldouk, added that the figure represented a 101 per cent increase when compared to N53.4bn collected by the command same time in 2023.
“The command collected N107.1bn as revenue in 2024 when compared to N53.4bn that was collected by the command same period in 2023, it represents a 101 per cent surge in revenue,” Edeldouk stated.
Edeldouk also disclosed that the command decorated 37 newly promoted officers and men.
She stated that the remarkable revenue growth is attributed to the command’s strategic efforts to strengthen revenue collection, improve compliance, and enhance operational efficiency.
The CAC emphasised that the success could be traced to several key factors including, implementing streamlined processes, leveraging technology, and ensuring excellent stakeholder engagement to facilitate legitimate trade.
“Other factors include, utilising data analytics and intelligence gathering to identify and combat smuggling, fraud, and other customs offences. Providing regular training and development programs for officers to enhance their skills, knowledge, and professionalism. Fostering collaborative relationships with importers, sister agencies, and other stakeholders to promote compliance and facilitate trade,” Edeldouk said.
The KLT Customs boss mentioned that the command intends to implement robust risk management systems and data analytics to enhance revenue collection in 2025.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, she expressed satisfaction in their dedication and hard work, “I want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you, your commitment to excellence, your passion for your work, and your willingness to go above and beyond have not gone unnoticed,” she stated.
