Cyriel Dessers has warned Celtic that Glasgow Rangers are determined to beat them to a sensational Scottish Premier League title this season, Primanews Sports Extra reports.
Dessers posted another decent display to help the Gers secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against Celtic in an Old Firm derby last Sunday and even had a goal ruled out for an infringement.
The final Old Firm league meeting of the season will come at Celtic Park following the Premiership split after the final round of games next weekend, with the game potentially pivotal in deciding who goes on to lift the league trophy.
With that in mind, Dessers says Rangers’ performance would bode well for the next meeting between the two sides—and, in turn, their title hopes.
Celtic currently lead the log with 75 points from 32 games, one point ahead of second-place Rangers, who have a game in hand.
The 29-year-old Nigerian striker spoke told Daily Record the Light Blues were capable of winning the title.
“At this moment, I don’t have a lot of words,” Dessers said.
“For us, to get a draw against Celtic, this is going to be massive for us for the rest of the season. Now we can believe in winning the title.
“We showed we can hurt them, and if we’re a little more lucky and we can take our moments, then we can get a good win there. We will have to be ready from now until the last game, but I think we are.”
Dessers, who has scored 17 goals this season since arriving from Cremonese last summer, hopes to break his Old Firm duck at Parkhead.
He said, “I thought I scored, and I celebrated as well. So, I had a little taste of the feeling.
“But I was unlucky because it got chalked off. I heard it was a foul, which was unlucky for me and for the team in that moment.
“I am getting closer all the time, so the next game would be a very good moment to score my first Old Firm goal.”
