Hygiene brand, Dettol, reached out to communities in Lagos State with football matches to showcase grassroots talent as part of its three-event series to promote community health and hygiene.
Dettol Cool hosted the event series from June 16 through June 27, 2024, beginning at Gbagada, followed by football matches at National Stadium, Surulere and the African Church Field, Ogba, a statement from the brand said.
Local teams featured in the event vied for an N200,000 cash prize at the respective football pitches, with three teams emerging victorious across the pop-up events.
A local team, Crespo FC, won the match in In Gbagada with a dramatic last-minute goal, and in Surulere, Box2Box FC took the win, while Oriental Strikers FC won the last match in Ogba.
Dettol Cool’s brand ambassador and professional footballer, Taiwo Awoniyi, appeared at one of the events in the Gbagada area of Lagos, much to the excitement of participants and spectators.
Awoniyi commended Dettol Cool’s commitment to promoting health and hygiene through sports and noted that he was proud to be associated with the initiative.
While presenting the prize to the winning team at Gbagada, Awoniyi stated that such initiatives were crucial in nurturing young talents and providing them with the platform they needed to shine.
The Nottingham Forest centre-forward said he was honoured to witness the incredible talent on display as he shared his similar beginnings and extolled the importance of such opportunities in shaping a football career.
The Senior Brand Manager at Dettol Nigeria, Nonye Opara, declared that the company leveraged the universal appeal of football and created a dynamic platform that not only showcases local talent but also reinforced Dettol’s commitment to holistic well-being.
