Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Enyimba, lost the Abia State FA Cup title against local rivals Abia Warriors on Sunday following a 4-2 defeat on penalties after regular time ended 1-1 while Bendel Insurance claimed the title in Edo State with a 3-1 win over One Star FC.
Abia Warriors took the lead in the 38th minute of the game, but despite Joseph Atule’s second half equaliser, Enyimba crumbled in the shootout.
In Lagos, Nigeria National League side, Ikorodu City FC won the state FA Cup for the second consecutive time, after beating Inter Lagos 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday just as Remo Stars feeders’ team, Beyond Limits, also claimed the Ogun State FA Cup with a 3-2-win over Stormers FC in Abeokuta.
Ikorodu City scored a goal each in either half through Uzondu Austin and Tosin Oyedokun to see off the new side who share the same home ground with them in the NNL.
Uzondu Austin got the first goal with a header in the first half, while captain Tosin Oyedokun doubled the advantage from the spot in the second half.
Meanwhile, Beyond Limits, who dumped out Remo Stars in the semi-finals last week made another statement with a pulsating 3-2 win over fellow NNL side Stormers FC at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
There were three goals in the opening 13 minutes of the game as it took three minutes for the academy boys to take the lead while stormers equalised from the penalty spot six minutes later. Beyond Limits restored their lead in the 13th minute but they were pegged back again in the 39th as the frenetic first half ended 2-2.
Second half substitute, Sunday Ogbonnaya scored the winner with a volley inside the box for Beyond Limits, four minutes after replacing the injured Farouq Ogundare.
In Benin, Federation Cup champions, Bendel Insurance beat One Star FC 3-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to take the state title.
