An ex-convict identified as Kokumo Olatunbosun has been arrested by the operatives of the Ago-Iwoye Division of the Ogun State Police Command for alleged burglary, destruction and theft of property valued at N1,640,000 in the Imoro area of Ago-Iwoye.

The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday, disclosed that Olatunbosun was arrested on January 6, 2025, after breaking into a house and stealing the items.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect, a former prisoner with two prior convictions, pretended to be Adebayo Wasiu before his arrest.

According to Odutola, the suspect had allegedly broken into the house after the family had gone for a church service, by using a plier to cut the electric wire on top of the high fence, jumped into the compound and entered the house through the window. Once he realised the family was back from church, he hid in the storeroom.

“He broke into a house in the Imoro area of Ago-Iwoye area, used a plier to cut the electric wire on top of a high fence valued at N700,000, and gained entrance to the compound by climbing the fence. He damaged the window burglary valued at N110,000, destroyed louvers valued at N50,000, entered into the house through the window, carted away pieces of jewelry valued at N100,000 and an iPhone 13 valued at N680,000.

The command noted that while acting on the tip-off, detectives were immediately dispatched, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Odutola stated, “The suspect has been arrested and the jewelry recovered but the iPhone 13 is still missing. He currently is in custody and undergoing investigation.”

She assured concerned residents that the suspects would face prosecution upon completion of the investigation and that any further updates as the case progresses would be communicated.

PUNCH Metro had reported earlier that operatives of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command arrested one Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at N200,000 for his child’s naming.
