A former Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero, on Saturday resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Yero was the deputy to the late Governor Patrick Yakowa. He was later sworn in as the governor following Yakowa’s death in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State in December, 2012.
He contested the 2015 election under the PDP but was defeated by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, who governed the state till 2023.
However, the former governor made his position known in his resignation letter, dated September 30, 2023 and addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Kaura ward, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
His resignation came 48 hours after the petition of the PDP’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Isah Ashiru, was dismissed by the tribunal.
Yero did not give any reason for his resignation but said, “With gratitude to Almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party.
“In view of this, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of PDP with effect from 30th September 2023.”
He added that he had also returned his party’s membership card.
