A SS3 student of the Federal Government College Kaduna, Udo Cletus, has won a total of N1.9m in cash and gifts at FGCKADUNA’s Speech and Prize Giving Day.
A statement signed by the Global President of the Alumni Association, Seyi Gambo, said that the Speech and Prize Giving day, which had not been held for 11 years, was revived by the current alumni executives.
According to the statement, “Since the inception of their administration, efforts have been geared towards alumni reaching out to ensure the school continues to thrive as one of the leading federal schools in Nigeria. Just last year, over N200 million was raised at the endowment funds. The administration also led efforts to prevent the school lands from being forcefully acquired by the Kaduna State government.”
The event’s guest speaker, Mr David Kevin, spoke inspiringly about the journeys shared by many alumni and the future prospects for the graduating students.
His address, titled “Navigating Life’s Journey: Lessons from My Secondary School to University Experience,” emphasised the value of appreciating education and finding one’s path to lasting success.
The overall winner, Udo, excelled by clearing 11 subjects to become the top graduating student.
A significant contribution of N1m was donated by alumni member Abolore Solebo, with additional cash gifts and a laptop totalling N1.9m presented to the winner at the event.
“Access Bank was on hand to open accounts for all the Awardees,” the statement continued. The occasion was emotional, with expressions of joy from parents, awardees, students, and teachers,” it read.
The Principal of the school, Benjamin Ochogwu, expressed gratitude to the alumni association and urged their continued support to ensure the school’s ongoing success and growth.
Many former graduates attended the event to show their support for the school.
In his address at the event, Global President Seyi Gambo and his executive team expressed delight that students excelling in their studies were being recognised.
He remarked, “We give God all glory and thank you all for your uncommon support. It is crucial that we redirect our youths’ focus from superficial competitions like Big Brother and emphasise that excelling in studies earns genuine appreciation and respect globally. This is just the beginning; we hope to achieve much more in the future.”
