At least five people were burned to death in a motor accident involving a Mass Transit Bus at the G-Hostel area along the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.

The tragic incident occurred when the fully loaded bus crashed and burst into flames after encountering an obstacle on the road late at night.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the accident, stating, “The bus was loaded with passengers. And it crashed and busted into flames when it encountered the obstacle.”

He noted that seven other passengers involved in the accident were receiving treatment at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary.

PUNCH Online gathered the obstacle was placed on the road due to ongoing rehabilitation work on some damaged sections of the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.
