The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has urged African nations to unite and make use of the abundant mineral opportunities within their reach.
He also called for the creation of an African alliance between government and private sector stakeholders to unlock the continent’s mineral resources’ potential for the benefit of all citizens.
The minister made this appeal at the second ministerial African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking during his address, he emphasised that the central focus of the summit was to unleash the potential of Africa’s vast mineral resources, stressing that, “Institutionalizing Ministerial Summits like this are vital to enhancing our collective capabilities.”
He said, “This Summit aims to explore ways to develop the abundant mineral potentials of our various countries and address the various natural and man-made constraints that hinder the optimal utilization of these God-given resources. Our goal is to seek potential collaborations and tap into the abundant investment opportunities that the African Continent holds in the untapped mineral resources sector.
“Without a doubt, Nigeria will continue to actively participate in the activities of the Ministerial Summit and related initiatives, especially to foster deeper and result-oriented cooperation among member countries, aligning with the goals and objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area. In this regard, the institutionalization of Ministerial Summits like this has become a necessity to enhance our collective capacity.
The minister added that Nigeria as a blessed nation with a diverse range of natural resources is eager to collaborate and exchange experiences with other African countries.
Tuggar also acknowledged the progress achieved by some developing countries in transitioning to cleaner and renewable energy sources. He added that countries must invest in expanding vehicle charging infrastructure and electric vehicle technologies to meet the rising demand for clean energy.
