French top division club, OGC Nice’s midfielder, Alexis Beka Beka, has reportedly threatened to jump from the Magnan viaduct in Nice.
The incident is said to be related to a romantic breakup.
The Daily Mail reports that firefighters, police officers, and a psychologist dispatched by the Ligue 1 club are involved in trying to help the player.
Reports say Beka is stood on the 100 metre high Magnan viaduct, located on the A8 motorway to the northwest of the city of Nice.
The club has cancelled its press conference with coach Francesco Farioli scheduled for Friday with ‘crisis talks’ going on behind the scenes.
Nice are currently second in the French top division table and have a home fixture at the Allianz Riviera against the leaders Brest on Sunday.
Their manager Eric Roy, giving a press conference on Friday ahead of the game, said: ‘I would like to give, as well as the entire club, my support to Nice with regard to the current events.
‘I am hoping that it ends as well as possible. My heart goes out to them.’
Beka joined Nice in 2022 from Lokomotiv Moscow in exchange for 12 million euros but has not played this season. The viaduct is approximately 100 meters high, causing traffic disruptions on the A8 motorway.
