ANKARA (AA) – French defender William Gallas announced his retirement from football Thursday.
The 37-year-old had played for all major English Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
He was also part of the squad that won the Premier League title twice, in 2005 and 2006 with Chelsea.
The footballer made the announcement about the end of his career in a TV program in France.
“It is not an easy thing to announce. Even if I say to myself that I should continue, I know I cannot do it anymore,” Gallas said.
The footballer began his career at the French club Caen in 1995 and had 84 international caps at the time of his retirement.
