Pupils of Glowfield International School dazzled with spectacular performances at their maiden inter-house sports competition held at Salem Christian Centre, Lekki, Lagos State, on Saturday.

Sapphire House emerged winners of the colourful event that featured a march past and track and field events, with swimming and football competitions already concluded before the main day. Parents and school staff also participated in various events, including races and tug of war.

Mrs Blessing Anenechukwu, Director of Glowfield International School, said the sporting event aligned with the institution’s core vision.

“This inter-house sport is in line with our vision as a school, which is to discover and activate the star in every child, establishing communities of creative,e joyful learners who are fortified for global relevance,” she said.

“Not every child is going to be a superstar in academics, but they have several skills that can bring them to the limelight and bring them that global relevance, so we are committed to discovering every talent a child has.”

The chairman of Glowfield, Anthony Anenechukwu, emphasised the school’s dedication to holistic education.

“We are using this to demonstrate our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that extends beyond academics, focusing on the overall development and well-being of its students,” he stated.

The event had former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai as a special guest, who expressed delight at the performances he witnessed saying, “I am so excited with the beautiful performances from our pupils, the acrobatics and colours.

This is also where I and other national athletes started, right in school. This is the time when parents start discovering talents and can motivate their kids.”

Julius Charles, Sports Manager at Glowfield, commended the enthusiasm displayed by the participants.

“Today, I saw so much excitement from all the houses, and everyone is a winner, these are champions and young superstars and we are hoping to see them rise from this,” he remarked.

“The children were so happy to participate and engage despite the limited games we had. You could see they have that sportsmanship spirit, and it gives me so much joy.”

Deborah Momoh, Deputy Health Teacher, highlighted the importance of sporting activities in child development.

“The inter-house sports are very important for children because they help to build them physically, mentally, their resilience and also teaches them to work as a team and embrace winning and losing anyway it comes. It is good for the well-being of the total child,” she explained.
