Comedian Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name, Basketmouth, has made a bold entrance into the world of cinema with his debut feature film, Ghetto Love Story.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, the renowned comedian expressed his love for making movies over any other pursuit.

He said, “In actual fact, it’s been a plan all along. I knew I was going to end up in the movies. So when I started comedy, I went to TV, and all along, I knew I was going to end up in movies. I enjoy making movies. So, transitioning was easy because it was already in the plan. I can make it because, by default, I’m already a storyteller based on the fact that I do comedy.”

He also revealed that he didn’t make his movie for financial gain.

“I didn’t do this movie to make money but to create art and excellence. But if it does, by the grace of God, I’ll make the money back, and if it doesn’t, I’ll challenge myself with this project.”

Okpocha also revealed that he faced significant financial challenges during production, with costs skyrocketing by 20 per cent due to market fluctuations. However, he noted that he was not willing to compromise on quality by cutting the budget, stating, “I’d rather challenge myself to create something exceptional.”

He also assured his fans that although he still had other movies to make, comedy was a priority.

“Next year, I’m going on tour. I have my UK and US tours, and I’m going to have my show here in Nigeria,” he stated.
