Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong says he expects the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo to be packed with fans when Nigeria face Rwanda in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday, 5 September, the experienced defender expressed confidence in the home support.

“I know that the stadium is going to be full tomorrow,” Ekong said. “The people of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria love our team, and I know they will come out. We hope to do our best to make them proud. We sincerely appreciate all the support we get.”

The Super Eagles host Rwanda on Saturday, 6 September, with kick-off at 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time. The game will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, known for its electric atmosphere.

Group C Situation

Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C trailing leaders South Africa.

The Super Eagles must secure victory to stay alive in the qualification race, while Rwanda will aim to frustrate the hosts and boost their own World Cup hopes.

Recent Meetings

The fixture has become a fiercely contested one in recent years. Rwanda stunned Nigeria with a 2-1 win in Uyo during AFCON qualifiers, though the Super Eagles earned revenge with a 2-0 victory in Kigali earlier in this World Cup qualifying campaign.

What’s at Stake

For Nigeria, three points are essential to avoid falling further behind in the race for a top-two finish. Rwanda, meanwhile, could take a huge step toward their first-ever World Cup appearance with a positive result.

All eyes will be on Uyo on Saturday evening, with Troost-Ekong confident that the fans will play their part in pushing the Super Eagles forward.
