Stanbic IBTC Bank has selected 200 outstanding scholars from over 16,000 applicants for its University Scholarship Award.
Speaking during the award ceremony, Chief Executive Officer, Standard IBTC Holdings, Dr Demola Sogunle, promised the recipients that the bank would support them throughout their academic journey.
He encouraged the scholars to remain focused and strive for excellence in both their academics and character.
The University Scholarship Programme, which was founded in 2019, sought to empower brilliant young minds who, due to financial constraints, might find it difficult to realise their academic potential.
“This year, from over 16,000 applicants, we have meticulously selected 200 outstanding scholars through a rigorous process that assessed their academic excellence, leadership potential, and desire to impact their communities and the nation significantly. To our scholars, I say congratulations. Your hard work, resilience, and dedication have brought you this far, and this scholarship is proof of your potential to achieve even greater heights.
Our commitment to you goes beyond the financial support. It promises to stand by you as you journey through your academic pursuits, nurturing your talents and providing platforms to shine and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Head of Brand and Marketing at Stanbic IBTC, Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustaining and expanding its scholarship program, which aligned with their core impact areas: education, health, and economic empowerment.
She added  that the organisation’s focus on education and empowerment was central to its brand identity. In addition to scholarships, Stanbic IBTC also runs a signature health initiative.
A Mechanical Engineering undergraduate at the University of Lagos, Shoghi Ojong-Ayuk, said he discovered the Stanbic IBTC Undergraduate Scholarship while searching for ways to alleviate his family’s financial burden.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Stanbic IBTC committee and encouraged other students to stay focused, build strong profiles, and persist in applying for opportunities, as they never know which one might come through.
Another  100-level student at the University of Lagos, Ebube Onoh, said, “I discovered the Stanbic IBTC scholarship through a friend. Initially skeptical, I found the application process straightforward and decided to apply using my UTME and WAEC results.
I received an email announcing her selection, which filled me with overwhelming joy.”
Onoh encouraged others to take advantage of similar opportunities.
