Indigenous contractors registered with the Nigerian Agip Oil Company have opposed the ongoing acquisition of the company by Oando Plc.
The indigenous contractors also threatened to shut down all facilities belonging to the oil giant in the Niger Delta over arrears of unpaid contract debts.
Under the Argos of Coalition of Indigenous Contractors of Agip, they said allowing the deal to sail through without settling all debts owed them by the company was inhuman and against global best practice.
The contractors wondered why Agip would embark on such a deal without first discussing the modalities to pay all their outstanding debts.
CICA in a statement in Port Harcourt and signed by its Chairman, Ifeanyichuku Olisa and Secretary, Chief Felix Alumona, alleged that Agip owed its members money for jobs they did for the company.
They therefore called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure that all outstanding debts were paid before the acquisition is concluded.
The statement said, “We recently heard that NAOC has been acquired by Oando and the acquisition process is ongoing.
While we hold no objection to the purported acquisition, we are concerned about what happens to the monies NAOC owes all its contractors.”
