Super Eagles captain Kenneth Omeruo has set Turkish Super Lig record with Kasimpasa, garnering 56 points in the 2023–2024 season, their biggest haul in a single season of the Turkish topflight.
The Apaches won 16, drew eight, and lost 14 of 38 matches to amass 56 points, finishing fifth in the standings, a spot below UEFA Conference League qualification.
This surpassed their former haul of 54 points in the 2021–2022 season, when they surprisingly finished in 11th position.
Omeruo, who joined the club from Leganes last July and started all but one of his 24 matches, scoring once and rendering five assists, celebrated the feat on his Instagram page after they rounded off the campaign with a 2-0 win over Besiktas at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu in İstanbul.
“God is the greatest. We finished the season with a win and 5th place. Most points won in club history. I am proud to represent this great club, Kasimpas. It’s time to properly rest and enjoy with the family,” stated the 30-year-old, who was an unused substitute in the match against Besiktas.
After years of merely surviving the Turkish topflight, Kasimpasa started competing in 2012, when they lured well-known players such as Ryan Babel from Ajax, former Swedish national team goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, Trézéguet, and strikers Eren Derdiyok from the Bundesliga and Mbaye Diagne, and have continued to invest and strengthen their squad.
The club also developed Turkish national team players in various age categories from their youth squad, such as Eren Elmalı and Yasin Özcan.
