Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday announced his new cabinet, retaining some ministers and appointing new ones.

Former Education Minister Fred Matiang’l has been appointed as the interior minister, a position he has been holding since the death of former Interior Minister Joseph Nkaisserry last year.

Matiang’I has been regarded as a minister who brought changes in Interior Ministry that helped the country’s fight against terrorism.

Kenyatta announced that five other ministers — including Charles Keter (Energy), Henry Rotich (Treasury), Najib Balala (Tourism), James Macharia (Transport) Joe Mucheru (ICT) — have been retained due to their “exemplary work”.

Kenyatta noted that some of the ministers had been sacked but he will make announcement in this regard at a later date.

Some new names that popped up include former Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

Kenyatta also dropped the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Ndegwa Muhoro, giving an acting charge to police spokesman George Kinoti.

This comes just a day after Kenya’s Opposition vowed that its leader Raila Odinga will be sworn in as President of Kenya by the end of this month.

The violence erupted in Kenya following the elections that claimed the lives of more than 100 people.

Kenyatta has announced that more names will be released at a later date.
