SportKure sets new record at AFN trials




National Javelin champion, Samuel Kure, set a new personal best record to win men’s javelin event for the first time in five years at the 2024 MTNChamps/AFN National Trials in Delta state.
Kure threw 77.45m to place first position ahead of Lawrence Onyejiaka who recorded a throw 66.94m – a personal best to finish second while Kenechukwu Ezefor placed third with a season best of 62.33m.
An excited Kure told believes his performace in Asaba has offered him hope of doing better in the 2024 season.
He said, “I feel super excited and glad setting a new personal best record at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria national trials and it also inspires me to push harder for more.
“In the last five years, I have been struggling to surpass my own record and achieving this feat is a motivating factors.
“The throw means a whole lot to me, it gave me hope that I can do better because I still feel that I have a reserve as the work is still in progress.”
Kure also vowed to justify his place in the  expressed optimism of making Nigeria proud at the 13th African Games in Ghana.
He said, “Through the support I get from my boss Coach Samuel Onikeku, I believe I am going to make Nigeria super proud at the 13th African Games in Ghana.”
