Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday flagged off the distribution of multimillion-naira instructional materials and sports kits to pupils in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The items distributed included: 73,365 textbooks covering English, Mathematics, Computer Studies, and other core subjects; 12,780 assorted primary school library books; 100 pieces of special education materials; 260 sets of Early Childhood Care and Development Education plastic chairs and tables; 3,931 sports equipment; 344 sets of agricultural tools; 78 pieces of tablets.

AbdulRazaq stated that the initiative reflects his administration’s priority on basic education and its commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children.

“The administration believes that the menace of out-of-school children will soon be a thing of the past due to our continuous investment in education,” he said. Represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Kawu, the governor reiterated his commitment to alleviating the burden on parents by providing free instructional materials.

He highlighted ongoing interventions such as the recruitment and promotion of teachers and the upgrading of school infrastructure to enhance the quality of education in the state.

Chairman of the Kwara House Committee on Education, Muhammed Salihu, described the event as a historic milestone in the development of basic education, lauding the governor for his continued investment in the sector.

“With initiatives like this, the state has moved beyond its past educational challenges and is bridging gaps across various sectors,” Salihu said.

State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Professor Raheem Adaramaja, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering commitment to improving basic education. He emphasized that the distribution of materials and sports kits would enhance learning and holistic development for school children.

“These materials will undoubtedly raise educational standards and promote sports activities in our schools, bringing much-needed relief to parents and students alike,” he said. “We firmly believe that education is the bedrock of development, and our goal is to nurture future leaders who will drive positive change.”

Also present at the event were senior government officials, local education secretaries, traditional chiefs, and representatives of various educational institutions.
